LIBERATION GRAND TOUR — SUMMER EDITION

LIBERATION GRAND TOUR — SUMMER EDITION

THE STORIES STAY WITH YOU.

Our Summer Edition connects Flanders, the Somme and Normandy, following stories of sacrifice, resilience and liberation across two world wars. The Last Post in Ypres, the Somme memorials and the Normandy coast give the journey its meaning.

July brings long evenings to enjoy the historic towns, local food and company. Good riding links the visits, with time to step off the bikes, ask questions and take in the places around us.

Thoughtfully chosen stays and personal hosting bring the holiday together. Riders and pillions share the discoveries and the welcome, from our first dinner to the journey home.

A holiday to share, however you ride

The history, hospitality and evenings together belong to every guest. Rider or pillion, you share the visits, the dining and the personal care throughout the journey.

Come as a couple, with friends or on your own. Tell us what interests you and whether you have a personal connection to the history; we’ll discuss how it could fit into your chosen tour.

The holiday around the history

Remarkable places, enjoyable roads and the pleasure of travelling with a small group of 8–10 customer bikes. Each Liberation edition has its own story, with the same personal approach to the journey.

Places worth staying

We select high-quality stays for their character, setting and hospitality as well as their location. Think distinctive town hotels and regional properties worth spending time in, with comfortable rooms and a warm welcome after the day’s visits. Individual hotels will be confirmed before booking.

Personally hosted

Julian brings the group together, with daily briefings, agreed meeting points and time for questions. We balance the riding with visits, coffee stops and space to enjoy the places along the way.

History with room to reflect

Museums, memorials and the landscapes themselves tell the story. Some moments are shared; others deserve quiet time on your own. Visits follow local opening arrangements and any published event programme.

Evenings in good company

Dining is a considered part of the journey. We seek out regional cooking, quality ingredients and restaurants chosen for their food and welcome, alongside special dinners to mark the occasion. There is time to savour the meal and share the day’s stories. We discuss dietary preferences before departure.

Riders and pillions belong equally

Come on your own, as a couple or with friends. The visits, hospitality and welcome are for everyone. Tell us about your riding experience, room preferences and any personal connection to the history.

Your motorcycle, or help with hire

Bring your own touring motorcycle or choose the hire-bike option. We’ll discuss which works best for you before booking. Scheduled airport arrangements are described below; flights are not included.

We describe the journey and the style of stay here, keeping the choice of individual hotels open. Your written quotation will identify accommodation, included meals, visits, crossings and support before you book.

The Journey

Ypres — from our own travels.

DAY 1 — AN EVENING IN YPRES

FROM ENGLAND TO FLANDERS

We meet in the Windsor / Heathrow area, bring the group together and ride to Folkestone for the crossing to France. Once the motorcycles roll out at Calais, there is time to settle into the ride before the quieter roads around Cassel lead us into Flanders.

Our first overnight is Ypres. We aim to arrive early, park the Harleys and check in with time to spare before walking into town.

This evening, we plan to attend the Last Post at the Menin Gate. Ypres brings us into the story of the First World War and gives our journey an opening rooted in remembrance.

Then there is time around the table. A first evening together, a chance to get to know one another and the roads of the week still ahead of us.

Overnight

Ypres

Ride

Windsor / Heathrow area → Folkestone → Calais → Cassel countryside → Ypres · Continental riding: approx. 100–140 km; UK riding additional, mileage to be confirmed

DAY 2 — FROM FLANDERS TO VIMY RIDGE

YPRES TO ARRAS

After breakfast, we ride out into the countryside around Ypres. Our first planned visit is Tyne Cot, with time to walk quietly among the graves and take in the scale of what happened here.

Then we turn south. Small roads, open farmland and a proper lunch stop carry us towards Vimy Ridge, where we visit the Canadian memorial.

We also visit the Ring of Remembrance at Notre-Dame-de-Lorette in Ablain-Saint-Nazaire, with time to walk and reflect at the outdoor memorial before continuing to Arras.

We are giving these places room. The final roadbook will confirm the route and visit timings, balancing Tyne Cot, Vimy Ridge and Notre-Dame-de-Lorette with lunch and breaks.

We aim to arrive in Arras by late afternoon, with the final timing confirmed in the roadbook. The bikes are parked and the evening is ours to enjoy around the town's squares.

DAY 3 — THE SOMME

THE STORIES BEHIND THE LANDSCAPE

Today's miles are deliberately modest. From Arras, our route takes us through Beaumont-Hamel, Thiepval and Albert before finishing in Amiens.

This is a day to understand the landscape as well as look at it. We plan to arrange a local guide for the principal Somme visits, bringing the places and individual stories together without turning the day into a rushed list of memorials.

If there is a family connection you would like us to consider, tell us before the tour. We can look at whether a personal visit fits the route.

There will be time for lunch and for the short rides between the sites. Amiens is our home for the evening, with the group back together over dinner.

DAY 4 — THE ROAD TO NORMANDY

AMIENS TO BAYEUX

Today, the journey turns west. We leave Amiens for a fuller day on the road, with Honfleur as our planned lunch stop and a chance to stretch our legs around the harbour.

The story also moves forward to the Second World War. Our principal history stop is Pegasus Bridge, before the final ride into Bayeux.

With more ground to cover, we will keep the visits focused and use a practical mix of roads to reach our hotel in good time.

And tonight, there is no need to think about packing again in the morning. We stay in Bayeux for two nights, giving ourselves a settled base for the Normandy coast.

Experience

Honfleur harbour • Pegasus Bridge • First evening in Bayeux

Overnight

Bayeux — first of two nights

Ride

Amiens → Honfleur → Pegasus Bridge → Bayeux · Approx. 280–330 km

DAY 5 — THE NORMANDY COAST

OMAHA, REMEMBRANCE AND THE ROAD BESIDE THE SEA

The luggage stays at the hotel. Today we ride out from Bayeux towards Omaha Beach and the Normandy American Cemetery, allowing time for everyone to experience these places at their own pace.

From there, the coast draws us towards Arromanches and the remains of the Mulberry Harbour. There is history all around us, but there is also room for a good lunch, sea air and the smaller roads between the villages.

Pointe du Hoc is an option if the final programme allows enough time. We will settle that detail around the main visits, keeping the day comfortable.

By evening, we are back in familiar surroundings in Bayeux. The bikes are put away and there is another evening to enjoy the town.

Bayeux — second night

Ride

Bayeux → Omaha Beach → American Cemetery → Arromanches → Bayeux · Approx. 100–150 km

DAY 6 — NORMANDY BY MOTORCYCLE

THE COUNTRYSIDE ROADS

This is the day to enjoy the Harley. Leaving Bayeux, our proposed route takes us through Suisse Normande and the Pays d'Auge before turning towards Lyons-la-Forêt.

We are looking for flowing roads, villages worth stopping in and somewhere good for lunch. There is more riding today, with the landscape itself providing the reason to take the smaller roads.

The precise roadbook will balance those detours with a sensible arrival time. We want time to enjoy our final evening together as well as the journey that gets us there.

Our destination is Lyons-la-Forêt. A small Norman town, the Harleys parked for the night and one last group dinner before we turn towards home.

Montreuil — from our own travels through northern France.

DAY 7 — THE ROAD HOME

LYONS-LA-FORÊT TO ENGLAND

Breakfast, bags packed and the final ride north. From Lyons-la-Forêt, we work our way towards Calais, keeping a generous margin for the Channel crossing.

Where the timing allows, we will enjoy quieter roads through northern France. The final approach will be straightforward, with time for fuel and a last stop together before boarding.

After arriving in Folkestone, we ride together back to the Windsor / Heathrow finishing point. Our shared journey ends there, before our individual roads home begin.

A week that opened in Ypres has taken us through the Somme, across Normandy and along roads we might otherwise have passed by. The photographs will tell some of it. The conversations over the next few weeks will tell the rest.

Passports, visas and entry requirements

Countries on the published route: United Kingdom (England), France and Belgium.

Guests of all nationalities are welcome. Each guest, whether riding or travelling as a pillion, must hold a valid passport or other travel document accepted for the whole journey, together with any visas or travel authorisations required for their nationality and circumstances.

The continental countries listed above are in the Schengen area. British citizens can normally visit for tourism without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area as a whole. Other nationalities may also qualify for visa-free travel or may need a Schengen visa; holding UK residence permission alone does not establish entitlement to enter Schengen.

This tour starts and finishes in the UK. Guests arriving from overseas must check their permission to enter the UK before departure and to re-enter it after the continental part of the tour, including any UK visa or ETA requirements.

Check passport issue-date and expiry requirements, any previous Schengen stays, and whether ETIAS or another travel authorisation will be required by your departure date. ETIAS is separate from a visa; follow the official guidance current when you travel.

Please check the official requirements before booking and again before departure. We can provide itinerary and accommodation confirmations to support an application once arrangements are confirmed. Obtaining the required documents and meeting entry conditions remain each guest’s responsibility. Our joining instructions will include a route-specific reminder.
